Day 1
Departing from Quito, Ecuador’s capital city, a 30-minute flight over the eastern Andes will take you to the jungle town of Coca. There, Napo Wildlife Center staff will be waiting for you to give you a warm welcome and take you to the Francisco de Orellana Port, only 5 minutes away from the airport. And here is where the real adventure begins! At the port you will get on a motorized canoe to travel downstream along the Napo River, a major tributary of the Amazon. During the trip, you will have the chance to see different birds such as kingfishers and herons and admire the incredible views of the Amazon jungle. Box lunch will be provided.

After a two-hour ride along the Napo River, you will arrive at the NWC’s dock entrance where you can take a short break to freshen up and use the restrooms. Then, you will continue on your way to the lodge in paddle-canoes. This majestic and peaceful dugout canoe ride along a narrow stream will lead us to the Añangu Lake, where the lodge is located. Late afternoon arrival at the Napo Wildlife Center.

Day 2
Adventure at the Napo Wildlife Center begins early in the morning with a visit to the parrot clay licks. It will only take us about an hour to get to the first parrot clay lick which is easily accessible from the lodge. Once we get there, at around 7:30am it normally takes just a few minutes for the birds to show up. A visit to a clay lick is a colourful experience. Around 11 species of birds including parrots, macaws and parakeets visit the clay licks every day to feed on the minerals that are concentrated in the soil which is found there.

Later on, we hike along a forest trail to visit the Kichwa Añangu people to share time with the men, women and children of the community and learn about their every-day activities, routines, ancestral customs and traditions.

Then, we will say goodbye to the families and continue our adventure. After a 30 minute hike through a Terra Firme forest we reach the second parrot clay lick where we can again see a great variety of parrots, parakeets and macaws. Here we will enjoy a delicious lunch provided by the NWC staff. Late in the afternoon we will arrive back at the NWC.

Day 3
After breakfast we depart for the Canopy Observation Tower, a high platform from which you will get a bird’s eye view of the jungle. The tower is around 30 minutes from the lodge within the Terra Firme forest.

This wooden platform which is 36 meters high was built next to a huge and ancient Kapok tree. To get to the top you pass through different levels of the forest. Then, when you are finally there, the immensity and beauty of the Amazon jungle opens just before you. There are not enough words to describe it, you have to experience it yourself!

Birds that are just virtually impossible to see from the jungle floor will pass right by you. Flocks of vibrantly colored tanagers, blue-and-yellow macaws and large toucans fly past in the early mornings and afternoons.

After lunch back at the lodge, we will go deep into the jungle along a Terra Firme trail to discover the beautiful and mysterious wildlife that hides in the forest’s interior. There are great possibilities to see lizards, different species of monkeys such as the endemic Golden Mantled Tamarin, rare and unique insects and even snakes! Also, we will have the chance to explore the black waters of the Añangu lake and streams. These waters are home to many different species of fish and mammals such as the Giant Otter, a species unique to the Amazon.

Day 4

On the last day we will depart after an early breakfast to go back to Coca, going out the way we came in with a ride on a paddle-canoe to the docking area and then embarking on a motorize canoe back to the jungle town. During this last excursion the creek may reveal new sights of rare bird species and monkeys.

The main hall of the Napo Wildlife Center, where meals are served, also offers several comfortable social areas, including a fully-stocked bar, reading lounge where briefings may also be conducted and a 20-foot high observation tower that provides a 360-degree view of the surrounding wilderness. There is a short trail that runs behind this building, very popular for evening strolls where busy nocturnal creatures come to life.

The lodge's cabins are spacious and comfortable and room facilities include:

A king sized bed & a twin sized bed
Safety deposit box
Private bathroom with hot water
Private balcony with views of the lakes and surroundings
Electricity 24 hours a day provided by a solar panel system and silent generators
